Sailing Canoes

The 16/30 class decked sailing canoe was developed in the 1880s and was popular until it was supplanted by the International 10 Square Meter canoe. This model is a hard-chine canoe originally built around 1910 for the Gananoque Canoe Club in Ontario. John Summers took the lines from an original and developed this version which takes advantage of modern materials and construction techniques.

This canoe is easy to sail, so far as sailing canoes go. The hard-chine design lends a measure of extra stability that eases entry into this exhilarating sport – sort of like having training wheels.

There is a growing fleet of these  – I’d love to build one for you so you can join in the fun!
